How To Remove Stains From Linen

Unlike cotton, linen is a heavier and stronger material, making it a common choice for bedding, tablecloths, and napkins. Because of this, it means your linen items can go through a lot – from protecting your table at big family dinners to keeping you warm at night. Vanish can help you keep your linen stain-free so you can love it for longer.

Even though linen is a super absorbent material, we recommend a three-step process with either the Vanish Gold Oxi Action Gel or Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder. All you have to do is either pre-treat, soak or use in wash to get the optimum results.

How to remove stains from tablecloths

Your tablecloth can work over-time to protect your table from breakfast, lunch and dinner. From the full English fry up to the classic Sunday roast, spills and splashes from food and drinks are a common issue that can threaten your linen tablecloth.

Pre-treating is going to give you the best chance of getting stains out of your tablecloths. If you’ve found yourself with stains like fruit juice or curry stains on your tablecloth, you can pre-treat with Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder or for food oil stains, Vanish Gold Oxi Action Gel has got you covered:

Powder:

Step 1 — Mix ¼ scoop of powder with ¾ scoop of cold or warm water (max 40°) into a paste

Step 2 — Softly rub the paste into the stain using the base of the scoop

Step 3 — Leave for a maximum of 5 minutes

Step 4 — Wash with your regular detergent and an extra scoop of powder in the machine

Gel:

Step 1 — Pour 2ml of Vanish gel onto the stain

Step 2 — Lightly scrub the gel into the stain with the base of the cap

Step 3 — Leave the gel to stand for a maximum of 10 minutes

Step 4 — Add 60ml of the gel into the washing machine and wash with your usual powder

Are stains on your tablecloth sticking around? Give them a soak in either the powder or gel before washing. Simply add 1x scoop of powder, or 60ml of gel, into 4L of warm or cold water (max 40°), and then leave it to soak for 1 hour (max) for colours and 6 hours (max) for whites. After, just wash as usual with an extra dose of Vanish in the washing machine.

How to remove stains from linen clothes

Crisp shirts, soft trousers or pretty jackets – there are limitless ways you can wear linen. But when you get a stain on your favourite item it can understandably be frustrating. If you’re looking to remove stains like sweat and makeup from your linen, pre-treat it with Vanish Gold Oxi Action Gel before putting it in a wash. If the stain is from something like deodorant or hair dye, then Vanish Gold Oxi Action Powder is your go-to pre-treat product. Simply follow these steps:

Powder:

Step 1 — Form a paste with the powder by mixing ¼ scoop of powder with ¾ of warm or cold water (max 40°)

Step 2 — Rub the paste into the stain using the underside of the scoop

Step 3 — Leave for a maximum of 5 minutes

Step 4 — Wash with your regular detergent and add an additional scoop of Vanish into the washing machine

Gel:

Step 1 — Pour 2ml of Vanish gel directly onto the stain on your linen

Step 2 — Lightly scrub the gel into the stain with the base of the cap

Step 3 — Leave the gel to stand for 10 minutes (max)

Step 4 — Add 60ml of the gel into the washing machine and wash with your usual powder

If your stain is difficult to remove, feel free to give it an additional soak in the right Vanish product for your stain. Just add 1x scoop of Vanish powder, or 60ml of Vanish gel, to 4L of warm or cold water (max 40°). Allow to soak for a maximum of 6 hours for white clothes or 1 hour for whites. Then, just wash as usual with an extra dose of Vanish in the washing machine.

Important:

Always follow the instructions on the label of the Vanish packaging. Read the label on the garment before cleaning. If unsure, you can always patch test a small, inconspicuous area of the item.

Tips

Wrinkles galore: Linen is well known for its ability to wrinkle and crease, so to keep your items looking great, take an iron to them to smooth out any imperfections. Hanging them up in a wardrobe and folding them will also stop them from creasing.
