Camp Festival – a Guide to a Fun-Filled Family Festival With Something for Everyone

Camp Festival is the hugely successful sister festival of Festival, an award winning music festival curated by Rob and Josie Da Bank. It takes place at the charming Lulworth Castle in Dorset between 26th and 29th of July. Read on to find out who's playing and what's on offer for the kids.

Camp festival blurs the lines between the Great British Summer holiday and a fun-filled family festival. From marvellous music to classic comedy, tantalising theatre to awesome activities, there's plenty to keep you and kids occupied throughout the four days.

This year sees big hitters Hot Chip, Happy Mondays and Rizzle Kicks take to the stage alongside some incredible veteran performances from the likes of Chic, Rolf Harris and Adam Ant. Lots to get the whole family dancing!

If comedy's more your thing you could take the kids to see Jimmy Carr or Rufus Hound. They are also bound to love the theatre shows from The Gruffalo Live, Shrek the Musical and the Fantastic Mr. Fox Opera. There are talks from Stefan Gates and the Fabulous Baker Brothers if you have any budding young foodies too.

Free on-site activities for kids
Beyond all of the fantastic performances, there is a huge emphasis on entertaining activities that parents can enjoy alongside their kids. A big proportion of the site is devoted to younger children in the form of the Upper Kid's Garden - it includes a bouncy castle, the Kids Big Top and a theatre workshop. There's also a toddler's area and the Breastival Mother and Baby Temple for the little ones.

The festival also caters for slightly older children at the Lower Kid's Garden with the Little Big Top and an Insect Circus & Museum.

What to bring:

Cash
There are loads of great free activities on-site but you'll still need some money for food and drink. The kids are bound to be hungry and thirsty after all that running around.

Day bag
You'll probably have a big bag with all your clothes in but it's a good idea to take a day bag that you can easily carry around for all your essentials.

Phone
Seemingly indispensable these days, a phone is a good idea to keep in contact if anything happens and you can even download a Camp Festival app with lots of useful info on too.

Clothes and more clothes
Never underestimate the power of children to roll around on the floor and be covered in mud stains within five minutes of arriving at the festival. Make sure you pack more than you think you need and pack for any kind of weather. We all know how fickle English summers can be!

Beware on your return to your house because you can take the clothes out of the festival but you can't always be sure you've taken the festival out of the clothes. If you find the little ones have trodden their own little muddy souvenirs of Camp Festival all over the carpet, just attack it with some Vanish Carpet Cleaner + Upholstery, Gold Powder and your happy memories will be the only remnants of the festival.
